The Rochester Federal Credit Union was originally chartered as the Rochester Postal Employees Credit Union in 1931. The Credit Union was formed for the mutual financial benefit of Postal employees in the Rochester area.
In February 2002, the charter of the credit union was expanded to include anyone who lives, works or attends school in Monroe County. At the same time, the name of the credit union was changed to First Rochester Community Credit Union. In August 2006, the credit union converted from a state charter to a federal charter and was required to change its name, becoming Rochester Federal Credit Union
